Expert Studio Artist user Chuck Floading was kind enough to share this new collection of Studio Artist 3.5 paint presets. This collection of new paint presets emulate some of the generic tools sets you might see in other paint programs. Included in this Tool Box are : Blur, Burn, Dodge, Erasers, Gradients, Layer to Layer Cloning, Pencils, Smudge, a Spray paint can, and more.
Chuck says the following about these new presets. “Studio Artist's paint synthesizer isn't limited to just media emulation, or cloning, or far out freaky paint effects. It can also do the work of some of the more traditional paint program tools. Included in this Tool Box are: Blur, Burn, Dodge, Erasers, Gradients, Layer to Layer cloning, Pencils, Smudge, a Spray paint can and more...
The Layer to Layer clone tools are non-traditional, but included in this set for their utility. They are intended to address a problem users sometimes have. You may be working on a canvas and get it to a point where you want to experiment, but be able to undo those experiments if you don't like them. To use them: Get your canvas to a point where you like it. The go to the main menu bar, select Canvas>Layer Commands>Duplicate current layer. Then modify and work on this new layer however you want using paint patches, IP OPs, whatever. Then switch to the Layer to Layer clone paint patches. Paint over the changes you don't like!
Most paint patches are set up to use the Source Image as the source for what happens on canvas. THESE patches use other layers as their source. By default, they use layer 1 as the source. You can modify the Bus popup setting in the Miscellaneous control panel of the Paint Synthesizer if you want to clone off of another layer”
You can download the new Paint Synthesizer Tool Box presets from this link called ToolBox.zip. After downloading and decompressing the downloaded zip file you will have a folder called ‘ToolBox’ that you should place in the Preset folder in your Studio Artist 3.5 folder. You will then be able to access the new Paint Synthesizer presets in the ToolBox Collection. If you place the ToolBox folder in one of your existing Collection folders you will lose the category hierarchy contained in the ToolBox collection folder.
You may have noticed that we’ve been a little lax on new posts for the blog recently. Bear with us, we’re hard at work on developing some exciting new things for the future. I’ve been configuring Studio Artist 3.5 to generate procedural abstract drawings recently so i’ll try to get a blog entry up soon that discusses that. We’ll also try to provide some coverage from Siggraph at the end of July. If you are going to be there make sure you check out the Guerilla Studio, which is a great resource for computer artists. Studio Artist 3.5 and MSG Evolver will be installed on all of the Macs in the Siggraph Guerilla Studio. There are a wide variety of color printers available for artist’s use at Guerilla Studio, so feel free to take advantage of these resources if you are planning on attending Siggraph.
