Artist Candice Pacheco comments: The Nuns originated from a digital photo taken of ten Tibetan nuns at the D'Cuckoo Park Soundware Farms recording studio during a recording session and then re-rendered using Studio Artist. In April of 1999 the nuns of Khachoe Ghakyil came to the United States for the first time to perform sacred dance and ritual music from the Tibetan Buddhist tradition. The tour is appropriately named "The Women's Freedom and Liberation 1999 North American Tour". The nuns are also creating Sand Mandalas in several locations across the US. They are the first Tibetan nuns to create Sand Mandalas in the west as this highly sacred form was previously taught only to monks. I first learned of the tour through a Buddhist magazine in the fall of 1998. I contacted Venerable Tsenla (the founder of the nunnery in Nepal) and asked if she would be interested in producing a CD of the nuns chanting. She was very enthusiastic about the project and we began making plans via email. In March the nuns arrived from Nepal and the next day after their arrival we started to record. I had the great fortune of spending the following month helping the nuns learn sound equipment to enable them to engineer their performances. Please visit their website and learn more about these amazing women. You can also check out their touring schedule and their beautiful photo gallery. http://members.tripod.com/~Lhamo/Nuns/index.htm You can listen to the CD which is entitled "The Bliss Whirl of the Sky Dancers" (also the name of their nunnery in Nepal) at http://members.tripod.com/~Lhamo/Nuns/KGproduct.htm |
